THE HAT-TRICK KINGS

ORANJESTAD- In sports, a hat-trick is when a player scores three times during a game. The term originated with cricket in the late 1870s, and meant "taking three wickets on three bowls"; then later extended to other sports, including soccer. An Alexandre Conceicao hat-trick fired La Fama over Caravel yesterday in Compleho Deportivo Guillermo Prospero Trinidad to restore his name as the top scorer of Division di Honor with eighteen goals. Conceicao opened up the score at the 3rd minute, scored again at the 39th minute mark before wrapping up his hat-trick at the 74th minute.

During the course of this season so far seven hat-tricks have been scored. The players who have scored the hat-tricks are in "a league of their own." Ronald Gomez of RCA was the first to score a hat-trick this season. In week two in their match against Caravel on Monday, 17 October 2011, Ronald Gomez scored at the 17th, 30th and 53rd minute to wrap up the first hat-trick of the season. The final score was RCA 5 - 1 Caravel

The second hat-trick of the season was scored by Alexandre Conceicao during La Fama match week six game against Riverplate on Sunday, 6 November 2011. Conceicao scored on the 17th, 27th, 36th and 55th minute for La Fama in their 7-1 demolitions of Riverplate.

The third hat-trick of the season was scored by a veteran who plays for RCA at the age of 32 is still considered one of the bests in Division di Honor. After missing the first 8 weeks of the season because of an injury obtained during the off season, he made his season debut against his old team during match week 9 on Sunday, 27 November and scored them a hat-trick. Maurice Escalona scored 13th, 25th and wrapped up his hat-trick at the 74th minute and gave RCA the win over Britania of 3-2.

For the fourth hat-trick we had to wait until match week 12 and on Thursday, 8 March during the match Caravel vs Riverplate; Abraham Pacheco scored his first hat-trick in Division di Honor. After making his debut during match week 10 for his club Riverplate, he found the back of the net three times in his third game of the season at the 12th, 30th and just before the end of the game at the 87th minute he scored his third goal of the day to wrap up his hat-trick. He gave his club a 3-0 win over Caravel.

Match week 12 proved to be a goal frenzy week in which not only Abraham Pacheco scored one for his club but on Sunday, 11 March during the game JTL vs RCA, Maurice Escalona netted his second hat-trick of the season. Carlos Steven Rua who is the third top scorer of the season with thirteen goals, also scored a hat-trick during this game in which RCA won with the score of 10-0 over JTL.

Last night Saturday, 28 April Alexandre Conceicao decided to quit all doubters that said he will not finish as the top scorer of the season by quietly scoring his second hat-trick of the season and totaling 18 goals so far with one more match week to go.

Out of all players in Division di Honor this makes these five players stand tall against others, not only are they in a league of their own, but are the only players who managed to score a hat-trick in 79 games played so far. Caravel is the team that has received 4 hat-trick scored against this season, RCA is the team in which 3 players have scored a hat-trick this season and Maurice Escalona has scored two hat-tricks. Steven Rua is the only mid-fielder who has scored a hat-trick this season and is also the top-scoring midfielder this season with 13 goals.
